July is Mental Health & Stress Resiliency Month

Know your mind

You may have heard the saying, “know thyself.” There is wisdom in that. Knowing yourself can help you reduce stress and manage your mental health.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, something that stresses one person may not stress another. Everyone is different.

There are ways to reduce stress that are common to everyone. These include:

  • Knowing what causes you stress and avoiding these situations
  • Daily exercise
  • Time management
  • Making time for yourself
  • Avoiding alcohol and drugs
  • Eating well
  • Getting enough sleep
  • Practicing relaxation
  • Talking with others about what stresses you

If you feel you cannot manage stress on your own, you may want to talk with a mental health professional. Together, you can work on an action plan to change your lifestyle.
