At Moda, we believe that the pursuit of better health and well-being is an ongoing journey. To help build stronger, healthier and more vibrant communities, we’ve teamed up with the Portland Trail Blazers to create Moda Health Months.
Each month, we partner with local organizations to raise awareness about various health issues and share ways to help you build healthy habits all year long. With access to tools and resources to stay healthy and prevent serious health conditions, you can learn how to live 12 months of better.
Moda Health Months kicks off in October and continues throughout the Blazers season and into the fall of 2017. Read on for more details about the causes we’re supporting each month, then join us for our 2016-17 health months journey on Facebook and Twitter under the hashtag #ModaHealthMonths.
Autism Awareness Month
Our partner: Autism Society of Oregon
In April, we are teaming up with the Autism Society of Oregon to raise awareness and improve the education and understanding of autism.
The Autism Society of Oregon (ASO) is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families living with autism by providing education and support to people on the autism spectrum and their families. The ASO helps improve their quality of life through community awareness and access to helpful resources and services.
Our partner: Grow Portland
This month, we're partnering with Grow Portland to show how growing your own food leads to healthier communities.
Grow Portland is dedicated to increasing opportunities for urban food production in the city of Portland. This local nonprofit uses neighborhood and school gardens to empower people to grow their own healthy food and connect with their community.
Dental Health Month
Our partner: Dental Foundation of Oregon
This February, we're partnering with the Dental Foundation of Oregon to focus on the power of healthy smiles.
Oregon children suffer more dental pain and infection than kids in almost any other state. To help, DFO provides direct care and oral health education to underserved children with the Tooth Taxi free mobile dental clinic, educates the public about oral health challenges and advocates for programs and policies that improve care for kids.
Blood Donor Awareness Month
Our partner: American Red Cross Cascades Region
In January, Moda Health Months is teaming up with the American Red Cross Cascades Region to raise awareness about giving blood, and how your donation can save lives.
The American Red Cross Cascades Region provides relief and safe blood supplies for families and community emergencies in Oregon and Southwest Washington. During National Blood Donor Month, Moda Health Months and the Portland Trail Blazers urge eligible donors to make a difference in our communities and across the country by giving blood.
Flu Vaccination Month
Our partner: American Lung Association in Oregon
In December, we're partnering with the American Lung Association (ALA) in Oregon to educate people about how to protect themselves and others from the flu and related health complications.
The ALA is a leading source for lung health education, research and advocacy. Throughout Flu Vaccination Month, the ALA in Oregon will be working with Moda and the Portland Trail Blazers to encourage everyone over the age of six to get a flu vaccine to lower their risk of catching the virus.
Diabetes Awareness Month
Our partner: American Diabetes Association
In November, we are teaming up with the American Diabetes Association (ADA) of Oregon and Southwest Washington to raise awareness about the increasing number of people living with diabetes in the United States.
The ADA is leading the fight against the deadly consequences of diabetes by funding research to prevent, cure and manage this often-invisible disease. During Diabetes Awareness Month, the ADA's Oregon and SW Washington office is partnering with Moda Health Months and the Portland Trail Blazers to deliver community services and support that help improve the lives of individuals and families affected by diabetes.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Our partner: Susan G. Komen Oregon and Southwest Washington
In October, we are partnering with the Susan G. Komen Foundation of Oregon and Southwest Washington to provide the latest information and resources for people affected by breast cancer.
Now in its 25th year, Komen Oregon and Southwest Washington raises money for and increases awareness of breast cancer issues across the region through education, outreach and health-disparity campaigns, as well as annual events like Race for the Cure. Since 1992, the local chapter has raised more than $31 million for breast cancer research, advocacy, survivor/fighter support and early detection.
We have exciting news to share. ODS is changing its name to Moda Health.
Moda comes from the latin term "modus" and means "a way". We picked it because that's what we are here to do: help our communities find a way to better health.
Together, we can be more, be better.
