The PEBB Diabetes Prevention Program is a lifestyle training program that teaches participants strategies for incorporating physical activity into daily life and eating healthy. You'll work with a trained health coach to how to make changes to become more physically active, reduce stress, lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle. Pre-diabetes is when your blood sugar is higher than normal, but not high enough to be type 2 diabetes. Having pre-diabetes means you have a high risk of developing diabetes. But with some healthy habits, you can stop it. You can lower your blood sugar to a normal level by:
Some people are more likely to develop diabetes. Just because you have some risk factors doesn't mean you'll get diabetes. Healthy choices can reduce your risk. Here are some risk factors:
If you have more than three risk factors, talk to your doctor. It might make sense for you to be tested for pre-diabetes. We also encourage you to join our Diabetes Care program if you've been diagnosed with diabetes or if your doctor thinks you're at a higher risk for diabetes. This program is based on a successful program from the National Institutes of Health. It focuses on healthy eating, regular activity and some weight loss. Over a year, people in this program have greatly reduced their risk of going from pre-diabetes to type 2 diabetes.
