Equal Funding plans are a good option for employers looking to transition from fully insured plans, or those interested in limiting risk in a partially self-funded environment. Equal Funding is also ideal if your client is seeking more transparency on what your collective healthcare dollars are going toward on a more granular level.

How Equal Funding works

Equal Funding plans are ideal for employers who value cost control and transparency when purchasing a health plan. With equal funding, your clients will save money while still offering their employees a wide range of benefits and the support to get the most out of them.

Moda Health's Equal Funding plan allows your clients to pay their maximum exposure over 12 predictable monthly payments. Once the period ends, a portion of funds paid, but not spent on benefits, will be rolled over to the following year as a credit.

The plan contains three components:

  • A self-funded medical plan, which covers medical services and expenses for your clients employees and their dependents
  • An agreement with Moda Health that provides third-party administration for claims processing, billing, customer service and other administrative services
  • A stop-loss insurance policy from Moda Health that helps protect your clients from large catastrophic claims by a covered individual(s), and provides overall protection if combined medical claims exceed the annual limit

If combined healthcare claims end up being higher than expected, the insurance company covers them. However, if the claims are lower than expected, the insurance company retains the difference.

Traditional health plans involve businesses paying fixed premiums to health insurance companies, who in turn pay health care claims as well as other costs such as administrative fees, sales commissions and taxes.

If combined health care claims end up being higher than expected, Moda Health covers them. However, if the claims are lower than expected, the insurance company retains the difference.
