Moda Health joins the American Cancer Society in making strides against breast cancer

The American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk is set to take place this Saturday, May 8, kicking-off at the Rose Quarter. To participate, contact Amy Theberge of the American Cancer Society at 503-795-3958, or visit www.portlandstrides.org. Since 1993, Making Strides has been the Society's premier event dedicated to raising awareness and dollars in support of breast cancer research, programs, advocacy and patient services. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a noncompetitive walk supporting the American Cancer Society's unique mission to fight cancer on four fronts: research, education, advocacy, and patient services.

As the nation's largest nongovernmental breast cancer research supporter, the Society has funded more than $387 million in breast cancer grants since 1971 to give those touched by breast cancer more reasons for hope.

Walking in Making Strides is a fun, memorable experience and a great way to raise money to fight breast cancer. Participants enjoy a day of exercise, camaraderie, entertainment, food, and most importantly, honoring someone they love who has been affected by this disease. Though walks are typically 5 miles in length, a 2.5 mile route has been added to this years walk, to suit walkers of any lifestyle. This year, there will be close to 150 walks taking place nationwide with over 600,000 participants.

"Moda Health is proud to be a part of such a special day. A day that celebrates the women, men and families who have battled against breast cancer and who will continue to battle until there is a cure," said Jonathan Nicholas, Moda Health Vice President, Branding and Communications. "The American Cancer Society does such a wonderful job of supporting our communities and for Moda Health, that means supporting many of our members that connection, that link, is why we are proud to be a supporter of and an advocate for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk."

Dollars raised from Making Strides are used by the Society to fuel the most promising research; to spread lifesaving breast cancer awareness messages; to advocate for screening opportunities for all people; and to ease the cancer burden for people facing the disease.

Katie Paullin, Moda Health Community Investment includes, "I remember my first Portland Strides event. Showing up and seeing a sea of pink as well as, smiles, tears, hugs, laughter almost every human emotion. For those of us who have fought against this disease, this day is a celebration, a symbol of hope, of triumph, of passion, of the future."

Join Moda Health & the American Cancer Society this Saturday - make new friends, honor and celebrate loved ones affected by breast cancer, and help raise funds in the fight against cancer.

The American Cancer Society saves lives and creates more birthdays by helping you stay well, helping you get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back.

Hello.

We have exciting news to share. ODS is changing its name to Moda Health.

Moda comes from the latin term "modus" and means "a way". We picked it because that's what we are here to do: help our communities find a way to better health.

Together, we can be more, be better.
